History

Information and Digital Technology Center, originally named the “Information Systems Education Center,” was established on July 27, 1984, through a collaboration between the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) and IBM Thailand Co., Ltd. The objective was to develop computer personnel for both the public and private sectors.

In 1990, it was upgraded to the “Office of Information Systems Education” on August 18, 1990, with two primary responsibilities: 1) providing computer training to personnel from government agencies, state enterprises, and private sectors, and 2) offering computer services to students from all faculties of the institution.

In 1992, the institute assigned the office to offer the course CS.400 “Introduction to Computers” to students from all faculties. This was to enhance students’ computer skills, increasing the office’s teaching responsibilities, which continued until the second semester of the 2007 academic year.

In 1998, the office was approved to offer a “Graduate Diploma in Information Systems Development” program. The objective was to produce personnel responsible for developing systems for use in organizations across the private sector, state enterprises, and government agencies, to meet the country’s demand for information technology personnel.

In 2003, in collaboration with the Faculty of Business Administration, the office was approved to offer a “Master of Science in Information Technology Management” program. This aimed to integrate information technology disciplines to align education with emerging technological concepts and to respond to the technology needs of organizations and the country. This program ceased to admit new students in the second semester of the 2006 academic year, and the office discontinued its teaching responsibilities in the 2009 academic year, having graduated seven cohorts, totaling 56 students.

In 2004, the institute issued Order No. 754/2004, dated November 1, 2004, transferring the responsibilities of the Technology Center, the Audiovisual Services of the Educational Services Division, and the Information Center for Management to the office. This was to unify the institute’s technology operations, with the office overseeing the institute’s information technology services.

In 2008, the institute issued a decree on September 1, 2008, regarding the restructuring of administrative divisions within the Office of the President. It relocated the Audio and Electronics Unit and the Still Image and Television Unit to the Audiovisual Group under the General Administration Division, effective December 1, 2008. Additionally, the office was tasked with organizing a computer proficiency assessment project four times a year to ensure that students possessed standard-level computer skills.

In 2009, the office was responsible for managing the institute’s information and communication technology operations. This included overseeing, developing, and maintaining information technology systems for the institute’s units and community, as well as managing the quality assurance information system, e-office system, and e-learning system. To ensure effective and efficient operations in line with current circumstances, the office restructured its internal divisions as follows:

1. The Information Technology Division: This division is responsible for the institute’s information technology operations, overseeing the development and maintenance of information technology systems for the units. It is divided into five functional groups: Infrastructure, Information Systems Development, Computer Services, IT Innovation, and Academic Services.

2. The Secretary’s Office: This division supports the information technology service operations, divided into three groups: Administration and General Affairs, Finance and Supplies, and Planning and Development.

In 2012, the office changed its name to the “Information Technology Office” on April 21, 2012, following the Royal Decree establishing the divisions within NIDA, Ministry of Education, in 2012.

In 2013, the office revised its mission and organizational structure to improve management and operational efficiency. This involved restructuring some group leader positions and establishing new ones, with the new structure taking effect on November 1, 2013.

In 2016, the office restructured its internal divisions again to align with its mission and workforce, implementing the new structure on October 27, 2016, as follows:

1. The Information Technology Division: This division handles the institute’s information technology operations, overseeing the development and maintenance of information technology systems for the units. It is divided into four functional groups: Infrastructure, Information Systems Development, Computer Services, and IT Innovation.

2. The Secretary’s Office: This division supports the information technology service operations, divided into three groups: Administration and General Affairs, Finance and Supplies, and Planning and Development.

Additionally, the office received ISO 9001:2015 certification from BSI Group (Thailand) Ltd. on August 20, 2016, covering the following scope: “The Provision of Information Technology Center (ITC) Services including IT Infrastructure Services, Information Systems and Software Development Services, Computer Laboratory Services, and Computer Maintenance and Support Services.”
In 2021, the institute issued a decree on December 17, 2021, regarding the restructuring of internal divisions within NIDA. The office was renamed the “Information and Digital Technology Center,” effective January 1, 2022.
